Artex & Textured Coating Asbestos Removal

Safe removal of asbestos in the home

Did you know that textured coatings such as Artex that were popular in properties built up to the 1990s contained white asbestos?

Asbestos was used comprehensively in construction between the 1950s and the 1990s, mainly due to its cheap cost and versatility. It was only in the late nineties that the dangers of asbestos became clear. Having been linked to certain types of cancer, we now know just how dangerous asbestos is.

Most types of Artex and textured coatings contained a relatively low percentage of asbestos at around 1% but these percentages did increase in certain applications. While there is no danger from Artex coatings that are in good condition they can cause issues when they are disturbed and damaged as this can cause exposure to the microscopic asbestos fibres – particularly when trying to remove these coatings.

At Asbestos Kent we can carry out a full survey on these types of potentially harmful areas within your home and assure the necessary removal of any hazardous material in a safe, cost effective and efficient manner.

Asbestos Garage Roof Removal & Replacement

Safe removal & replacement of asbestos garage roof

At Asbestos Kent, we specialise in the removal of asbestos garage roofs and replacement with a galvanised steel roof that is available in a wide range of colours.

How to tell if you have an asbestos garage roof?

There is no way to tell if your roof contains asbestos just by looking at it as asbestos roofing looks very similar concrete roofing so without having an asbestos survey carried out it is impossible to tell simply by looking at the roof.

Our team can carry out a full asbestos survey of your garage and if we find asbestos then we can organise the removal, disposal, and replacement of the roof for you.

If you have any of the following, then it would be worth having an asbestos survey carried out:

  • White/grey corrugated roofing panels

  • A build date before 2000

  • AC batch codes on the underside of roofing sheets

Why do I need to replace an asbestos garage roof?

If your garage roof appears to be in condition, you could be tempted to think that you don’t need to replace it. The problem with asbestos is the harmful asbestos fibres are microscopic in size and are easily inhaled when you breathe in.

If your roof panels are damaged in any way, then these particles are easily disturbed whenever you open or close your garage door. Asbestos has been proven to cause specific types of cancer, so if you suspect that your garage roof contains asbestos then you really should get it surveyed.

Asbestos Soffits, Fascias & Bargeboards

Safe removal & replacement of soffits,  fascias and bargeboards with asbestos

Was your property built before 1999? Then your fascia, soffits, and bargeboards could be made from Asbestos Insulation Board (AIB). As these boards were painted it is extremely difficult to tell what they are made from without having a survey carried out.

At Asbestos Kent we can carry out the removal of all asbestos based soffits and fascia boards and replace these with modern uPVC options that are completely safe.

If you are planning to freshen up the look of your house then new fascia boards, soffits and guttering can really help to improve the curb appeal of your property.

As a registered hazardous waste carrier, we’re certified for the safe removal of AIB and other asbestos based products including guttering, soffits, and fascia boards.

Asbestos Flooring Tiles

Safe removal & replacement of domestic & commercial asbestos flooring tiles and adhesives

Asbestos flooring tiles were seen to be a low cost and hard-wearing floor covering and as such these were commonly used in commercial buildings including retail premises, pubs, offices, and other high-traffic buildings. As well as being used in commercial properties, asbestos floor tiles can also be found in homes, particularly in kitchens and bathrooms.

This type of flooring was often stuck down using an asbestos glue and adhesive making it even harder to get rid of. A lot of plastic and vinyl-based flooring before 2000 was fixed in place with asbestos based bitumen adhesive as it added additional fire and water protection to the floor. This bitumen adhesive was also used for commercial carpet tiles and many other non-asbestos types of flooring.

Asbestos Flue

Safe removal & replacement of asbestos flue

Asbestos was commonly used for insulation in and around boilers and flues from the 1970s up until the early 1980s. The substance was banned in the UK in 1999 due to its health risks. If you have a boiler ann/or flue that was installed pre-1999, there is a high possibility it could have asbestos surrounding it.

At Asbestos Kent we are experienced in all aspects of asbestos removal. We can work with you from the testing stage right through to the safe removal of all asbestos, any replacement needed and of course, thorough clean-up. You can be sure of a safe, thorough and cost-effective job carried out by trained professionals.
